A secondary sale should be readable and operable however you use a computer: with a screen reader, with a keyboard alone, magnified, or with motion turned off. This page says what we work to, what is in place today, and what is still broken.
The standard we work to
We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA across theboringdesk.com and the dashboards behind it. We have not been independently audited against it and we do not publish a conformance report. What follows is our own review of our own code. Read it as a statement of current state, not as a certification.
What is in place
- Animation on the public site respects your operating system’s reduce-motion setting. With it on, the scroll reveals, the marquees, and the animated scenes hold still instead of moving. That includes both looping clips: the one on the About page and the background clip on the NAV lending page each does not start at all under that setting, and each carries a play control if you want it moving anyway.
- Content is real text, not pictures of text, so it reflows and rescales with your browser’s zoom and font-size settings. The typeface is served from our own domain, not a third party.
- Where we replace the browser’s default focus outline on a field or a button, we draw a visible focus indicator in its place. Nothing on the public site removes the focus ring and leaves nothing behind.
- Every public page opens with a “skip to main content” link as its first stop on the keyboard. It stays out of sight until you tab to it, then appears above the navigation and jumps focus past the whole nav to the page content.
- Video that starts on its own is muted. The one clip that carries an audio track will not play that audio until you ask it to.
- The one clip that starts and loops on its own can be paused, and it stays paused. The pause control sits beside the sound control on the clip itself, and neither switching tabs and coming back nor turning the sound on will start it playing again.
- Body text sits on the page background above the 4.5 to 1 contrast ratio that Level AA asks for.
What is not fixed yet
These are the barriers we know about. They are listed because knowing about one and not saying so is worse than having it.
- A clip with no captions or transcript. The video on the About page carries an audio track, and there are no captions and no transcript for it. You can now pause it and mute it, but if you cannot hear the audio there is currently no other way to get what it says.
- A game a screen reader cannot follow. The small jumping game on the Careers page is drawn on a canvas. It takes keyboard input and carries a label, but its state is not announced. Nothing on that page depends on playing it.
- The signed-in dashboards have had less review than these public pages. They are held to the same target and they are not yet checked against it as consistently.
- Generated documents are not tagged. The CIM we produce as a PowerPoint file and the valuation model we produce as an Excel workbook carry no accessibility tagging. If you need either in another form, ask and we will produce it.
Telling us about a problem
Email team@theboringdesk.com, or use the contact form. It helps to name the page, what you were trying to do, and what you use to browse. We will tell you what we can fix and when. If a barrier here is blocking you from something on a live deal, say so and we will get you the same information another way while we fix it.
Keeping this page honest
Every limitation above is pinned by a test against the code that causes it. Fixing one fails that test until this page stops listing it, so the list cannot quietly go stale in either direction. See also our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
